General
Why Twin Forks Simulation?
We offer a unique combination of skills; our focus is on quality. We listen to your vision and translate this with you into your dream simulator. We build a bespoke solution, customized to your needs, deliver and install it with you. Help you get familiar with all the aspects of safe operation and train you to start-up your motion platform. We are here to help you through the lifecycle of the motion platform, providing services to you as needed to help you keep the platform running at its best.
Who is the motion platform designed for?
You! We’ve designed the platform to be versatile to accommodate your dream simulator. Our VR based motion platform is developed for flight for private individuals, flying clubs, aviation associations, aircraft manufacturers, and flight schools. It’s ideal for hours of entertainment, but also training, reinforcement learning, and offering immersive experiences that inspire engagement in aviation.
What do we deliver to you?
We provide a complete motion platform, built with you to fulfill your vision. We spend time together to evaluate your needs and jointly decide how to specify your motion platform. This includes aspects such as controls, seating, VR capabilities and any special requirements you wish to integrate. As well as making sure that a PC sourced from us, works in a performant manner. This includes all aspects of software installation, (choice of suitable simulator software for your needs) configuration, motion control components etc.
How do we work together?
It's all about figuring out your needs and integrating them into our motion platform. We get together and discuss, brainstorm and jointly decide what your needs are, making sure these fit your vision.
What are the setup requirements?
Typically, you will need a flat and free space of at least 6x6ft or 2×2 meters, a standard height room of approximately 8ft, 2.3 meters, Standard entry doorway, 2 standard 120V-20A/230V-13A single phase power outlet on their own circuit/Fuse, and a stable (wired 300mbps+) internet connection for installation, updates and online functionality.
Is the simulator certified?
No. The simulator is not EASA or FAA certified and does not replace any legally required flight hours. It is intended as a complementary training tool with a strong focus on realism, repetition, and safe practice. We build a flexible simulator offering a wide variety of airframes. Certification is restricted to 1:1 airframe designs.
How realistic is the flight experience?
After studying the options and understanding the physics of simulator models, there was really only one choice. By selecting a six-degrees-of-freedom Stewart platform, the 3D depth perception of VR headsets, and accurate flight models, users experience physical motion and full immersion that closely replicates real flying conditions. We work with real pilots, to calibrate the motion of the platform to the flying model of the aircraft used in the simulation.
Is training or onboarding provided?
Yes. When we deliver the motion platform, after having placed and assembled it, we provide a comprehensive introduction. After that, the simulator is easy to operate independently. For professional operators, we also offer operator training.
What about maintenance?
Taking the cues from Aviation, we use Airworthiness Directives and Checklists to maintain the motion platform. Designed to be maintenance free from a hardware perspective. We carefully design components to proper tolerances, minimize the number of parts, and integrate them carefully in the motion platform. There is a small checklist that reminds you to check that bolts and nuts are checked for tightness, cables properly secured, visual inspection for any damage etc. It’s very similar to pre-flight checks you are familiar with. The motion platform hardware itself does not require regular software updates.
For Powered Flight Schools
What kind of training is possible in powered flight?
The realism of the motion platform is great for practicing traffic patterns, approach and departure procedures, emergency scenarios (e.g., engine failure), weather e.g. crosswind landings, and preparing for unfamiliar airfields – all in a safe, repeatable setting.
How does motion contribute to realism in training?
The motion component, combined with VR is a very unique proposition, You feel the aircraft, how it taxis, how it behaves in the air, turbulence, weather impact, cross-winds etc. something you simply cannot simulate in a static environment. Furthermore, by integrating VR with the motion platform, your brain brings the 3D world you see in VR together with the motion you physically feel. This allows you to build as well as keep muscle memory, which for example in winter months when it’s difficult to go fly, you keep your skills up to date in the motion platform.
Can we simulate more complex aircraft?
Yes. Depending on the flight simulation software you choose, a variety of aircraft can be used – including more complex types with retractable gear or variable‑pitch propellers. We can help you select the right type of aircraft, suited to your simulation needs. Many simulators bring highly complex aircraft to life from latest Commercial Jets, Military and Civil Aviation with full navigation, ATC solutions, Mechanical failure models and more.
Can we test the simulator before purchasing?
Yes. In fact we welcome you to come and visit us and try for yourself. We are at various locations throughout the year where we demo our setups. If you would like to organize an event at your facilities, please reach out to us.
What is the ROI for a flight school?
Many schools use simulators to extend training hours, offer additional practice, or provide affordable refresher sessions. Now add Motion and VR to this and it creates a new paradigm, a revenue stream and can allow the investment to pay for itself in a relatively short time, as students will upon first contact with a motion platform in VR understand that they can “Feel the Sky”. Add to this the safety aspect of sitting in a motion platform, to learn and experience, before first flight. Instructors can schedule multiple back to back sessions with multiple students and optimize time & travel invested and in case of adverse weather conditions, time is not necessarily lost.
For Gliding Schools
Which flight simulation software is used?
We recommend Condor 3 (Condor Soaring Simulator is © Copyright 2024 UBSoft d.o.o.) Condor gives pilots a complete experience of soaring on their simulator. The key to this experience is the feeling of immersion in the environment. Precise aerodynamics and weather physics drive the ongoing development. The Condor simulator with state-of-the-art graphics, real time control feedback, and cockpit sounds immerses you, the pilot, in the experience and is the closest you can come to flying a glider without ever leaving the ground. Condor 3 is one of the most advanced gliding simulators, known for its realistic aerodynamics, weather conditions, and aircraft selection.
What glider training scenarios are supported?
Users can practice winch and aerotow launches, thermal flying, ridge soaring, cross‑country navigation, circuit planning, and emergency situations like stall recovery, Train for off-field landing decisions – all in a safe and repeatable environment.
Can instructors be involved in the training?
Yes. Instructors can use the instructor mode to monitor or control scenarios, conduct briefings, and guide students through targeted maneuvers. There is also a dual person cockpit mode allowing students and instructors to share the same plane. If you so wish, 2 Motion platforms can be linked to fly, in Motion and VR, together in the same glider.
For Helicopter Flight Schools
Is the simulator suitable for helicopters?
Yes. The motion platform and VR setup allow for an immersive helicopter training experience. With suitable simulation software and control hardware, realistic helicopter flight is fully supported. The combination of motion with VR, is the nonplus ultra for Helicopter training. You have full 360-degree visual immersion and the vibrations of the helicopter that supplement the remarkably realistic feel of the simulation. These physical aspects are key to building muscle memory and staying fresh.
What helicopter exercises can be trained?
You can train initial flight, hovering, local flights, precision landings, sling loads (software dependant) confined area operations, and more – ideal for both basic and advanced pilot training. Navigation can be learned and trained while in the simulation
Can we integrate custom scenarios?
Yes, with the appropriate simulation software, you can load your own scenarios, flight zones, or training locations.
How do we select helicopter controls?
Controls need to be able to be used on a motion platform. Self-induced control oscillation is a problem in motion rigs. We partner with Pro Flight Trainer LLC, Swiss manufactured and designed flight simulator control solutions that address this carefully, so that we enhance the realism of the simulation.
For Enthusiasts & Private Users
Can the simulator be used privately?
Absolutely. The simulator is also designed for passionate hobby pilots and aviation enthusiasts who want to train or enjoy high‑quality flight experiences at home or in a private setting. Twin Forks Simulation was born right out of this space.
